Edwards along with Gary O'Neil are two of the initial candidates under consideration to succeed the former manager as manager of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The previous coach was sacked on Sunday after the team's ten-game without a victory beginning to the Premier League campaign.

And both candidates - each of whom have previous links to the club - are part of the names to be considered by the club leadership.

Edwards is presently at another club, which would create a possible obstacle to his hiring at Wolves' stadium.

Nevertheless the former Luton Town manager - who played over a century of games for the club during his playing career - is said to be a leading contender for the vacancy.

The mid-career manager is said to have backing from the club directors as they begin the search of hiring a fresh manager.

O'Neil is also appearing as a surprise contender, even though he would be a surprising choice given he was sacked by Wolves in the previous winter.

The ex- West Ham United player is out of work meaning Wolves would not be required to provide any compensation.
